Company profile:  As the owner of Bathroom Design Experts and a bathroom designer for over 15 years, I have remodeled many bathrooms that didn’t come close to passing current building or safety codes, let alone present a useable bathroom for an overweight, elderly or any person with special needs. In residential homes, 1 out of 10 bathrooms might meet the needs of a person with obesity. People come in all shapes and sizes – from apple shaped to pear shaped in which the hips and thighs don’t fit comfortably on a standard toilet seat or allow the bather to use a standard 36”x 36” shower stall. As our population’s weight and size grow, and the aging population choosing to remain at home, designing with these concerns can become impossible without moving walls – removing closets, or redesigning the entire home – just so a person can use the bathroom, completely and comfortably. Bathroom Design Experts researches and finds specific products that may help eliminate the need for remodeling the entire home.

It is nearly impossible to find any detailed design information for the mobile bariatric and aging population, let alone information on what toilets, showers and tubs are available and where to buy them. There are crucial construction issues to work with and through my past experience in bathroom design, construction and years of research into the world of ergonomics; I have the knowledge and experience to work in this problematic world of design.  

It is my goal as a designer, not to have the bathroom appear to be from outer space with contraptions and objects overwhelming the room. The bathroom shouldn’t seem to be unfriendly or even scary for guests; everyone should feel comfortable using it.
